Low wing wide body airliner with twin turbofans. Includes passenger (no longer in production) freighter and tanker versions.
Aluminium airframe with aluminium alloy wing skins and keel beam chords; graphite primary flight controls (ailerons, spoilers, elevators, rudder and floor panels); composite wing surfaces and engine cowlings; CFRP landing gear doors and aramid engine pylon fairings and flaps.
Choice of three high bypass engines from GE, Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney, pylon-mounted in pods under the wing. Control surfaces, landing gear and actuation systems are operated by three redundant hydraulic systems, two powered by a single engine each and the third by an electric pump. Fly-by-wire system operates the spoilers.
Two (three in KC-46A) crew in glass cockpit face three LCD screens displaying two windows each of EFIS and EICAS data.
