The Rostec United Engine Corporation has manufactured three components for a demonstrator of the advanced PD-8 engine, designed for the import-substituting regional airliner SSJ-NEW. The units were manufactured in a short time and are designed not only to drive the elements of the power plant, but also to ensure the operation of a number of systems of the aircraft itself, such as an electric generator for the cabin and a hydraulic pump for controlling the wing mechanisation.
The Salyut production complex (part of the UEC of Rostec) joined the cooperation on PD-8 at the end of 2020. As a result, the specialists of the enterprise manufactured a central drive, a gearbox for aggregate drives and an angular bevel gear, which together make up the drive unit of a promising engine.
"Work on the components of the latest PD-8 engine is based on the experience of creating parts for larger "larger" members of the family of modern Russian power plants for civil aviation - PD-14 and PD-35. At the same time, of course, there were tasks that had to be solved for the first time. The high level of competencies made it possible to manufacture a drive unit for the demonstrator in a short time - in a year and a half. This year we plan to assemble components for an experimental batch of PD-8 engines, " the Rostec aviation cluster said .
In March of this year, the PD-8 demonstrator with the nodes installed on it will begin to be tested.
The PD-8 bypass turbofan engine, which will be used in the imported passenger aircraft SSJ-NEW, is being created using the latest Russian materials and advanced technologies, including 3D printing. The work involves a wide cooperation of UEC enterprises, the experience of creating the PD-14 engine is actively used.
