Premium AEROTEC delivers 400th fuselage centre section for Eurofighter
Monday, 12 December 2011

The delivery of the 400th fuselage centre section for a Eurofighter further confirms Premium AEROTEC's strong position in military aircraft construction. The fuselage centre section manufactured by Premium AEROTEC is the structural 'core' of Eurofighter Typhoon, the European multi-role combat aircraft.

The components produced at various company sites are being integrated in Augsburg to form the fuselage centre section, which is then delivered initially to Cassidian in Manching. From there, parts are supplied to the final assembly lines in Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.

"Premium AEROTEC is the world's largest supplier of Airbus fuselage structures. Our successes in the Eurofighter programme regularly enable us to demonstrate our capabilities in military aircraft construction as well," said Kai Horten, CEO of Premium AEROTEC. "Besides our internationally acknowledged role as a powerful partner for civil aviation, our participation in the Eurofighter and the A400M transport aircraft is of great significance to our company in both economic and technological terms."

Roughly six metres long, the fuselage centre section of the Eurofighter is essentially an integral aluminium structure with titanium reinforcements that is planked with a single, monolithic outer shell made of carbon fibre composite material. Thanks to this construction, the component is not only lightweight but also capable of bearing heavy loads. In flight at up to twice the speed of sound, the fuselage centre section absorbs all forces acting on the wings, the air brake and the main landing gear that are attached to it.

On the basis of its long-standing and successful participation in the Eurofighter programme, Premium AEROTEC was also able to establish itself in the development and production of the A400M military transport aircraft. Responsibility for some 60 percent of the aircraft fuselage including the upper cargo door, which is made of carbon fibre composite materials, ensures Premium AEROTEC an major position in military aircraft construction.
