PRESS RELEASE
Issued by:

Meggitt to provide B777 engine health monitoring
Tuesday, 8 July 2008

Meggitt group company Vibro-Meter, Switzerland, has been selected by Boeing Commercial Airplanes to be the supplier of the engine vibration monitoring (EVM) system for all new 777 aircraft.

Vibro-Meter's EVM will be available in two versions. The basic version has the same functionality as the previous system. Another, advanced system features an open architecture platform offering computation power that enables engine manufacturers to integrate their own health monitoring algorithms.

Rolls-Royce customers will receive the advanced system incorporating the engine health monitoring functionality.

While aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney and GE engines will be supplied with the basic version of the AVM, the advanced system is also available for incorporation of Pratt & Whitney and GE health monitoring algorithms.

"This deal builds on our position as the world leader in engine vibration monitoring and will enable Boeing 777 operators to benefit from our advanced technologies," said Dr. Richard Greaves, managing director, Meggitt Sensing Systems.

By monitoring engine health through the AVM, operators will be able to predict engine component failure and maximise the efficiency of their engines. This minimises fuel costs and reduces the environmental impact of their operation
