Donaldson Aerospace & Defense, a business unit of Donaldson Company, Inc., has received a contract from Airbus Helicopters to produce its innovative Inlet Barrier Filter (IBF) element for the new Airbus Helicopters flagship H160 medium twin-engine helicopter.
Selection of the IBF element for the H160 represents a decision by Airbus Helicopters to offer premium filtration to its H160 operators. The IBF, which will be offered to H160 customers as an option and installed by Airbus Helicopters at its factory, is designed to provide superior filtration for the H160's more fuel-efficient twin-turbine engines. Each H160 helicopter will use two IBF elements.
The filters will protect components from dirt, dust and foreign object damage; reduce maintenance costs by extending time between service; and help helicopter engines operate at peak efficiency. Configured specifically for the H160, the filter element will also be available for aftermarket purchase by H160 operators. The IBF elements will be available at the entry into service of the H160 in 2018.
“The selection of the IBF element for the H160 again demonstrates the trust and confidence Airbus Helicopters has in Donaldson as an air filtration provider,” said Mark Brandenhoff, Global Director of Sales, Aerospace, for the Donaldson Company. “We have maintained a productive partnership with Airbus Helicopters for many years, and we look forward to building on that relationship in the years ahead.”
