Avidyne Corporation, a leading provider of integrated flight deck and safety systems for general aviation aircraft, announced today that they have been selected by Extra Aircraft LLC of Lancaster, PA as the avionics partner for the Extra EA-500 aircraft. Avidyne will provide their Entegra Release 9 Integrated Flight Deck avionics for the EA-500, including high-resolution Integrated Flight Displays, the WAAS-capable FMS900w Flight Management System, and dual 16-watt all-digital VDL-capable VHF radios.
"Avidyne is renowned for their innovation and overall ease of use," said Walter Extra, founder of Extra Aircraft. "But what has impressed me the most is the truly-redundant system architecture Avidyne has developed for their Release 9 integrated flight deck system. We look forward to working closely with Avidyne going forward."
"We are pleased to be selected as the avionics partner with Extra Aircraft," said Dan Schwinn, Avidyne's President and CEO. "With the EA-500, Extra is making a name for itself in the high-performance business-class airplane category and we look forward to working with them to integrate our top-of-the-line Release 9 avionics systems which are designed to make single-pilot IFR flying safer and easier."
Extra and Avidyne have already begun avionics system integration efforts in the EA-500 and initial deliveries are expected in 2009. Additional announcements will be forthcoming.
