Soloy delivers engine inlet assemblies for Grob Aerospace spn
Thursday, 15 March 2007

Soloy Aviation Solutions recently delivered the fourth of five development Engine Inlet Assemblies, EIA, in support of Grob's certification program for the spn light business jet. The first delivery took place after Grob Aerospace completed the First Article Inspection of hardware at Soloy's Olympia Washington facility. Deliveries for production hardware are slated to begin later this year.

The conceptual design for the spn EIA was conceived by Grob and Soloy was then tasked with its implementation which included the detail design, production of certification drawings, tooling, manufacturing and acceptance testing for the EIA. Engineers and manufacturing personnel at Soloy realized early on in this program that the aesthetics and the functional aspects were both of paramount importance for Grob. Behind the inlet's polished leading edge sits the bleed air ducting which is an integral part of the inlet anti-icing system. With an EIA located on the front of each engine, these assemblies are high profile parts of the aircraft. The EIA interfaces with the main engine nacelle and bolts directly onto the front of each of the Williams FJ44-3A engines that power the twin engine spn light business jet.

Soloy merged a number of its core competencies with a proven network of vendors to deliver the high quality product in a short lead time. In just 23 weeks after receipt of the original order, Soloy delivered the first completed Engine Inlet Assembly to Grob.

Soloy Aviation Solutions is the industry leader in engine accessory applications and re-engine modifications for helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. In-house capabilities include design, analysis, testing and manufacturing under an FAA approved quality system. In over 35 years, Soloy has obtained multiple certified applications and is currently certifying a new configuration of the Soloy Cessna 206H "Mark 2" with the Rolls-Royce 250-B17F powerplant.

Grob Aerospace is one of the world's largest and most experienced composite aircraft manufacturers. Its product range evolved from pioneering gliders of the 70s, the record-breaking high-altitude aircraft of the 80s and 90s, and to today's leading edge designed and state-of-the-art business jets, as well as to training and special mission aircraft. The Grob spn is a new class of aircraft combining the versatility and robust short field performance of a turboprop with the comfort, elegance and superior cruise speed of a genius luxury jet.
