The Boeing Company has selected AD Aerospace to supply a Direct View camera system on its 777 jetliner. The Direct View system will assist flight attendants by providing a means of visual contact with the cabin area so that they are aware of passenger needs while the crew are seated and have their belts fastened.
During take-off and landing it is necessary for the flight attendants to be able to check that the passengers all remain seated in the required manner. This is initially done by a walk through the cabin, but the cabin crew also need to be seated and have their harnesses fastened when instructed to do so. Therefore they must have an adequate view of the cabin from their own seated positions which are often near the exit doors.
However, the cabin configuration of modern aircraft especially within the first class areas containing individual Mini Suites, while offering an outstanding level of comfort for passengers, is making direct line of sight visual contact increasingly difficult.
The inclusion of a Direct View video camera system provides a simple and elegant solution to this issue. One or more cameras are installed in the ceiling of the passenger cabin and directly linked to an LCD monitor visible from the flight attendants seats therefore enabling them to easily observe the cabin area so they are able to quickly react if a passenger needs assistance or a situation arises. The camera and monitor are only active during these periods of flight so can in no way impinge on passenger privacy during the flight.
"We at AD Aerospace are extremely pleased that Boeing has selected us to provide the Direct View camera systems," said Mike Horne Managing Director, AD Aerospace. "It enables airlines to maintain their high levels of customer care consistent with modern passenger airliner interiors."
