NFX Aero has revealed that the FAA/EASA Certified GA-7 originally designed by Grumman/Gulfstream American has now been designated the GA-7 NFX “New Flight Experience” to reflect the company's commitment to Advanced Air Mobility and NASA's Regional Air Mobility program.
In a recent interview for a podcast to be aired by the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum, NFX Aero CEO Wayne Mansfield pointed out some of the many advantages of the GA-7 NFX. Because the GA-7 is already fully FAA and EASA approved for public transport, it enjoys a multi- year lead on the competition. What's more, the GA-7 powerplants are already approved to operate on unleaded fuels with plans to employ hybrid, electric, and combined combustion engines operable on SAF. Having a fully approved platform and the equipment required for mass production positions the GA-7 NFX as the fastest and safest route for AAM investors.
With a range exceeding 1,000 miles, the GA-7 NFX fills an important gap between short range UAM platforms and conventional air travel. Typical NASA RAM trip lengths of 100 to 500 miles will take advantage of America's 5,050 public use airports, which are located on average only 16 minutes from American homes. With easy access, travelers are relieved from their concerns about long waits for security and inconvenient boarding at major hubs. This is especially important to the rapidly growing population of aging adults, a major demographic with the means and motivation to travel.
The existing unleaded ICE powerplant version of the GA-7 is already more economical and environmentally friendly than others in its class; and the existing certification will allow the GA- 7 to move rapidly to sustainable biofuel and zero emissions powerplants, well ahead of proposed mobility solutions still waiting for FAA flight approvals and lengthy certifications. Plus, with redundant twin powerplants, the GA-7 offers enhanced safety for night, water, and mountain overflight.
Applications for Manufacturing Licenses to produce the certified GA-7 NFX are now being accepted for the APAC and EMEA regions.
