XPENG AEROHT partners with Guangzhou Development District to launch large-scale flying car manufacturing factory
Thursday, 4 July 2024

On July 4th, the Guangdong Province Low-Altitude Economy High-Quality Development Conference was held at the Baiyun International Convention Center in Guangzhou. During the conference, XPENG AEROHT signed an investment cooperation agreement with the Guangzhou Development District. The agreement entails comprehensive support for XPENG AEROHT in terms of land, financing, and application scenarios, aimed at jointly advancing the research, mass production, and application of flying cars. XPENG AEROHT will establish a center for flying car research and development, intelligent manufacturing, and sales in the Guangzhou Development District. This center will focus on the testing, production, sales, and operational management of flying cars. The intelligent manufacturing center will be the world's first large-scale flying car factory using modern assembly lines, initially producing the flight module of the modular flying car - Land Aircraft Carrier.

The XPENG AEROHT modular flying car "Land Aircraft Carrier" consists of two parts: a ground module and an air module, which can automatically separate and combine. The ground module can fully accommodate the air module within the vehicle for ground driving. The air module is the first China-developed, manned, electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft designed for personal use. It features a distributed electric propulsion system that meets single-point failure safety requirements, offers both manual and autonomous driving modes, and includes a 270° panoramic dual-seat cockpit. The ground module features a 4-5 person intelligent driving cabin with a range-extender electric propulsion system capable of recharging the air module multiple times. The vehicle uses a three-axis six-wheel design, enabling 6×6 all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering, providing excellent load capacity and off-road capability. It is scheduled to start pre-sales at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November.

As a representative of new productive forces, the low-altitude economy is experiencing significant development opportunities. In December 2023, China's Central Economic Work Conference proposed the development of strategic emerging industries such as the low-altitude economy. In March 2024, the Chinese Report on the Work of the Government emphasized the active creation of new growth engines like the low-altitude economy. In May 2024, the Guangdong Provincial Government issued the Guangdong Province Action Plan for Promoting High-Quality Development of the Low-Altitude Economy (2024-2026), aiming to build a world-class low-altitude manufacturing hub. The Guangzhou Municipal Government released the Guangzhou Low-Altitude Economy Development Implementation Plan, which includes the goal of producing and selling the first "Made in Guangzhou" flying car globally and promoting Guangzhou as the first city in China for commercialized manned flight operations. With the continuous release of policy dividends, China's low-altitude economy ecosystem, from technological innovation and product development to application scenarios, will gradually mature, injecting strong new momentum into the country's economic development.
