Rockwell Collins announced today that its second generation dPAVES™ system is now offerable as the in-flight entertainment (IFE) solution for the 737 Boeing Sky Interior. This generation adds high definition (HD) capability to the company's dPAVES single-aisle cabin offering.
"We see the in-flight entertainment market changing and believe this is a great opportunity to address the expectations of passengers," explained Tommy Dodson, vice president and general manager, Cabin Systems for Rockwell Collins. "Our dPAVES system has been successful because it is flexible, reliable and cost effective. The enhancements we're bringing to the 737 Boeing Sky Interior will add state-of-the-art video quality for all passengers."
For Boeing, Rockwell Collins' dPAVES system has recently been enhanced and now features:
· Retractable 12" 16:9 LCD HD-ready displays
· Enhanced touch screen flight attendant entertainment control panel (ECP)
· USB ports located next to the ECP for easier content loading
At the core of the dPAVES–HD system is the High Definition Media Server (HDMS) offering 160 gigabytes of solid state storage capability for audio and video content, integrated pre-recorded announcements (PRAM) and music functionality with embedded Airshow Moving Map – all in a single 4 modular component unit (MCU) box. The large storage capability of the HDMS allows for multiple play periods of entertainment content, and the server automatically selects the new content when the new play period starts.
Additionally, non-encrypted content can be handled by airlines independent of Rockwell Collins' content management system, giving airlines the flexibility to respond to commercial opportunities as they arise by replacing local content at a moment's notice, anywhere in the world.
