Embraer is working with Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) to develop its first and largest onsite solar energy project at its Melbourne, Florida campus. The installation, featuring over 1,900 solar panels, will generate up to 1,800 MWh per year, offsetting most of the energy needed to power the company's Customer Center facility.
The project is part of Embraer’s wider commitment to achieving 100% renewable energy across its operations by 2030. Since announcing its environmental targets in 2021, the company has also increased its use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at its Melbourne site.
Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer, says: “This project marks a significant milestone for our company. It signifies our commitment to the future of sustainable aviation and our dedication to sustainable growth. Recognizing the urgency of the climate crisis, we understand the importance of transitioning to a low-carbon economy. The need to adapt our industry to this new context presents a significant opportunity for growth and innovation.”
“We are excited to welcome Embraer to our FPL SolarVantage program with an onsite solar installation designed to help them get one step closer to their sustainability goals,” adds Tim Oliver, vice president of development for FPL. “We applaud their commitment to sustainable energy sources that help keep our air and water clean now and for years to come.”
The solar installation is expected to be operational by the end of 2025.
