Safran achieves world first EASA certification for ENGINeUS 100 motor
Thursday, 6 February 2025
The certified electric motor will support new air mobility, from small aircraft to future hybrid propulsion systems.

Safran Electrical & Power has received EASA certification for its ENGINeUS 100 electric motor, becoming the first electric motor approved for new air mobility. The certification follows 1,500 hours of motor testing and over 100 flight hours in real-world conditions.

The motor integrates power and control electronics, offering 125 kW maximum power with a 5 kW/kg weight-to-power ratio. To support mass production, Safran is setting up semi-automated production lines in Niort, France and Pitstone, UK, from 2026, with the capacity to produce over 1,000 units per year.

The ENGINeUS motor range supports multiple propulsion architectures, from fully electric two- to four-seat aircraft to hybrid-electric systems for 19-passenger regional transport and future large commercial aircraft. Companies including AURA AERO, Bye Aerospace, CAE, Diamond Aircraft, Electra, TCab Tech and VoltAero have already selected the motor.

“We have just witnessed a key moment in the history of aviation. By obtaining certification for the ENGINeUS 100 electric motor, Safran Electrical & Power has achieved a world first. For Safran Electrical & Power and its institutional partners, this event represents an immense source of pride,” says Safran Electrical & Power CEO, Bruno Bellanger.
