Airbus selects Rockwell Collins' Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer Actuator for A350 XWB
Tuesday, 6 November 2007

Airbus has selected Rockwell Collins to provide the Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer Actuator (THSA) for the new A350 XWB (Xtra Wide-Body) aircraft.  "This contract is the result of our strong relationship with Airbus and is another example of the trust we have built with Airbus over the last 10 years," said Kelly Ortberg, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Commercial Systems at Rockwell Collins. "While we've had a long history of providing avionics to Airbus, this is also the first time they have selected Rockwell Collins to provide the THSA for one of their aircraft and we look forward to providing more of our products and systems to Airbus in the future."

The THSA optimizes aerodynamics responding to complex computations to trim the pitch of the aircraft during flight. The Rockwell Collins THSA incorporates two independent means of drive and redundant failure detection technology meeting the latest stringent certification requirements.

About the A350

Airbus designed the A350 XWB (Xtra Wide-Body) in response to market demand for a medium capacity long range wide-body family. Designed with airlines' priorities in mind, the A350 XWB confronts the challenges of high fuel prices, rising passenger expectations and increasing environmental concerns. With entry into service from 2013, it has an entirely new, uncompromised, 21st Century design with a wider and taller fuselage for extra space and passenger comfort.
