Eaton's broad product portfolio enhances safety, reliability and power management for Embraer's KC-390 military transport aircraft
Wednesday, 11 July 2012

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation has been selected by Embraer to supply airframe fuel system components, hydraulic components and the on-board inert gas generation systemfor the KC-390 military transport aircraft in separate contract awards. The content reflects Eaton's comprehensive product portfolio and innovative technologies driving major platform advancements, in addition to certification support that will help the KC-390 meet all safety regulations. Terms of the contracts have not been disclosed.

"These contract awards with Embraer demonstrate Eaton's ability to provide highly reliable components and proven technologies, as well as program development support for the KC-390," said Bradley J. Morton, president of Eaton's Aerospace Group. "Eaton's many contributions to the KC-390 demonstrate our global strength in delivering solutions that improve safety, reliability, fuel efficiency and lifecycle cost management for military and commercial customers."

Eaton will design, develop and supply airframe fuel system components for the KC-390, which is currently in development, and provide production units and aftermarket support throughout the life of the program. Eaton also will perform full system qualification and certification for the integrated fuel-inerting system.

The on-board inert gas generation system enhances aircraft safety by injecting inert gas into fuel tanks to significantly reduce the potential for ignition sources. Eaton's experience in certifying multi-tank inerting gas distribution systems will improve safety for the KC-390 while reducing overall aircraft weight and increasing reliability.

Eaton also will supply engine-driven pumps, AC motorpumps and power transfer units to power the airplane's hydraulic systems. Hydraulic systems power the airplane's aileron, elevator, rudder, spoilers, flap and slat, landing gear, nose-wheel steering, brakes, thrust reverse, cargo door and auxiliary systems.
