The Carbon Cub kit was introduced at the 2008 Alaska Airmen's Show that took place in Anchorage on May 3rd and 4th. Thousands of attendees meticulously examined the uncovered airframe and were amazed at the technology and engineering revealed under the skin of the Carbon Cub kit. CubCrafters has given a Cub builder the ability to choose a Cub kit that offers a truly new design, where every component has been rethought and re-engineered for added safety, reduced weight, and simplified assembly, along with the largest, most comfortable, most modern interior available in its class. The Carbon Cub kit with a 180HP Lycoming O-360 engine installed will have the best takeoff and landing performance of any Cub on the market. The kit can also be equipped with a 100HP Continental O-200 engine that burns less than 5 gallons per hour and it will still outperform the majority of Super Cubs. The Carbon Cub kit is available as an E-LSA kit or an Experimental Amateur Built kit. Each kit is offered in three sub-kits: fuselage kit, wing kit, and finishing kit. All sub-kits are available in various stages of completion and are complete down to the last nut and bolt (less engine, prop, tyres, and avionics). A wide variety of optinal equipment is also available for the Carbon Cub kit.
Chairman Jim Richmond commented, "We have retained the excellent flying qualities of the Cub, but redesigned every part of every assembly to be stronger, loghter, safer or easier to build. We've come up with an extremely clean design that reduces the total number of parts in the airplane by 50% compared to the Super Cub!"
Richmond concluded, "We estimate that the average builder will be able to start covering the airplane in as little as 120 hours. In a hurry? We have kits that include covered wings and a covered fuselage...What colour would you like?"
