Pall Corporation, a global leader in filtration, separation and purification, has signed a 30-year agreement with Brazilian aerospace innovator Embraer S.A. to supply hydraulic filter manifolds and assemblies for KC-390 aircraft. The Embraer KC-390 is a medium-size military jet under development that relies on a sophisticated "fly-by-wire" (electronic) flight control system. The Pall filter manifolds will purify the pressurized hydraulic fluids that power the KC-390's flight control systems, cargo door, and landing gears against contamination, thereby enhancing aircraft reliability. The first shipments are expected by the end of 2013.
Contaminants can be introduced into hydraulic system fluids from the environment, during manufacturing and routine maintenance, and from component wear. If this contamination is not removed it will recirculate, potentially causing corrosion, fluid degradation, reduced system efficiency and, eventually, failure of the associated components. Fine filtration and purification remove minute particles and water to improve the service life, reliability and performance of the hydraulic system components. To bolster protection for the KC-390's power systems, Pall is customizing hydraulic manifolds and assemblies based on the latest filtration technology in accordance with Embraer's specifications.
Pall's association with Embraer dates back to the 1970s and has evolved through the years. "Pall is pleased to be teaming with Embraer on the KC-390 strategic alliance," said Mark Morris, president, Pall Aeropower Corp. "We're looking forward to building on the current relationship and collaborating with Embraer on future aircraft applications."
