TODS AEROSPACE have entered the first phase of a contract to manufacture more than 700 structural flooring plinths for premium class seating areas, commencing aboard a new fleet of Airbus A380 aircraft to be put into service by one of the world's premier airlines over the next three years.
The contract with Contour Premium Aircraft Seating will produce a series of seating plinths per aircraft utilising a lightweight sandwich panel construction to provide structural strength and to optimise on weight efficiency.
The seating plinths will be manufactured at Tods Crewkerne facilities and distributed to Contour in readiness to meet each aircraft's seating furbishment programme.
Tom Hitchings, Business Director at Tods Aerospace, said: "Following our long association with Contour for manufacture of plinths for their premium class seats, we are once again delighted to be working with them on a program including the latest generation of large jets. The project neatly dovetails into our forward production programme, where we are already producing aircraft flooring and complementary seating products for a diverse range of aircraft across the Airbus and Boeing range, alongside our flooring for military helicopters."
Tods Aerospace says this particular contract, if options are exercised, is potentially worth in excess of £2million.
