The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has granted type certification for the new Twin Voyager S12 by Stemme AG. This motorglider is based on the S10, and received official approval from EASA on March 11th, 2016.
The EASA type certificate is required before Stemme can deliver powered sailplanes of this variant to customers. Before a newly developed aircraft can be taken into operation by users outside the EASA area, the variant must be approved by the respective aviation authority. Since 2003, the EASA has been responsible for approval of aircraft in the EU as well as some non-EU countries. The S10 Type Certificate Data Sheet EASA.A.054 is covering the existing Stemme S10 models since 2005 and now also covers the S12 variant, confirming that they meet the requirements of the applicable certification basis as well as applicable environmental requirements.
Currently the EASA approved S12 is about to be also validated by the FAA (US Federal Aviation Administration).
