Hondajet chooses Meggitt's next generation display
Tuesday, 4 May 2010

Meggitt has been selected by Honda Aircraft Company Inc to supply the electronic standby indicator (ESI) for the HondaJet advanced light jet. The ESI comprises an integrated secondary flight display (iSFD) and magnetic heading sensor (MHS) and will be installed in the HondaJet type certification aircraft. The products provide standby flight information to the air crew for system cross-checks and for reference should the aircraft's primary flight display system fail.

The iSFD is mounted in the HondaJet flight deck and provides an independent display of aircraft attitude, altitude, airspeed, heading and navigation data. The displayed attitude information is sourced from internal inertial sensors; heading data from the remotely mounted MHS; and air and navigation data from other systems.

The iSFD is the latest development of Meggitt's highly successful Mk2 secondary flight display system and is attracting a high level of interest for its reliability, low weight, low cost of ownership, shortest installed length, best use of screen space, customisation and configurability. It is suitable for commercial and military aircraft, whether fixed or rotary wing, and includes an integrated air data module option. Over 5,000 Mk2 units have been delivered since 1996, all performing reliably across more than 30 different aircraft programmes. With initial deliveries of the iSFD starting at the end of 2009, iSFD remains the most up-to-date, low-risk instrument of its kind on the international market.

The MHS is a microprocessor-based unit that generates ARINC 429 magnetic heading messages based on the Earth's detected magnetic field. The MHS is qualified, TSO-approved and in production for a number of fixed and rotary wing programmes. The MHS is designed to withstand lightning-induced transients; HIRF (high intensity radiated fields); and audio frequency and induced signal susceptibility.

The HondaJet programme includes Meggitt wheels and brakes, a new generation fire detection and extinguishing system ("FIDEX") offering full ATA26 fire protection, accelerometers and engine vibration monitoring equipment
