Tuebingen-based tooling specialist Walter is strengthening its sales offer for PCD special tools (polycrystalline diamond) in Germany, by joining forces with the Portuguese subsidiary FMT (Frezite Metal Tooling) on September 1, 2023. This includes a newly founded business unit in Germany and the establishment of a strong sales team.
The development follows the acquisition of FMT by Walter in 2022 and provides customers with access to a wider range of PCD special tools for machining lightweight materials, such as aluminum - one of the most important materials in the automotive and aerospace industries. The sales team is now offering more solution-oriented advice in the field of aluminum machining.
"With the new sales unit, we are taking the next consistent step to significantly strengthen our position as a top supplier of PCD special tools and our expertise in lightweight machining. We are joining forces with the subsidiary FMT to further expand the market in Germany", says Christoph Geigges, President of Walter.
Tiago Fernandes, CEO of Frezite Group, adds: "Since the merger of FMT and Walter in September 2022, we bring together our expertise in special tooling with the engineering competence of Walter. I am looking forward to the new task with the goal of being one of the most important suppliers of PCD tools in Germany."
All PCD tools from Walter and FMT will continue to be produced at the plants in Niefern, Germany, and Trofa, Portugal. Walter plans to expand the business unit to further markets in the coming years.
