Hartzell Aerospace has been awarded a contract to design, test and supply APU inlet and exhaust systems for the new Bombardier CSeries single-aisle airliner. The contract could be worth up to an estimated $45 million. Both products will include noise attenuation treatment to meet the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) noise management requirement. To meet this requirement, Hartzell Aerospace is using its proprietary noise treatment material, Acousti-Flo® 2.2. The design and manufacturing of these products will be supplied by AcousticFab LLC in Sanford FL, Industrial Tube Company (ITC), LLC located in Perris, CA and Electrofilm Manufacturing Co. LLC in Valencia CA. All three companies are members of the Hartzell Aerospace group.
Hartzell Aerospace will provide APU inlet and exhaust systems to Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC) which is under contract with Bombardier Aerospace to supply the tail cone assembly for the CSeries airliner.
Hartzell Aerospace also provides the APU inlet and exhaust ducting for the Bombardier* Q400* regional airliner, as well as sound attenuation technology for other APU and Environmental Control System (ECS) applications including: Boeing 787, Bombardier Q400 aircraft, Mitsubishi Regional Jet, COMAC ARJ 21, Embraer 135/145, Embraer 170/190, Hawker 4000, and Hawker 900XP.
Simon Shackelton, senior vice-president of Hartzell Aerospace said, "This is a very important win for the Hartzell Aerospace group, as it fits our capabilities and growth strategy while supporting a major new program and successful OEM. The experience working with SAC and Bombardier will position us well for future programs."
David Schmidt, president of Hartzell Aerospace added, "This win extends our position of providing superior product leadership in noise control, water and air systems, and we intend to continue to build on these successes."
The APU inlet and exhaust are critical components of the auxiliary power system. Well-designed inlet systems provide noise attenuated, flow-balanced air to the APU. Properly-sized exhaust systems dissipate hot exhaust gas and optimize sound reduction to ensure the lowest possible ramp noise at aircraft service locations.
